Biography

Melisa Bertossi

Melisa is a saxophonist, composer and performer of jazz and avant-garde music. Born in Argentina, she resides in Barcelona since 2014, after living in Amsterdam, New York and Berlin. She attended the Conservatory of Amsterdam graduating in 2007 with a Bachelor in Jazz Music degree.

She leads the “Melisa Bertossi 4tet”, a group that explores contemporary jazz and characterizes by its fresh and energetic approach. Since 2018, they play weekly at the Vortex Jam Sessions in Barcelona. The quartet is preparing new material of original compositions and jazz standards to be released in 2020. Melisa also collaborates with pianist Matías Muñoz as a duo, and with the Big Electric Orchestra, a big band with modern arrangements lead by Claudio Marrero Santana.

Since 2018 Melisa hosts the Vortex Jazz Jam Sessions at Sinestesia, and the Flux Sessions, a series of free improvisation and avant-garde concerts. Both events are considered to be a benchmark of the Barcelona scene.

As of today, Melisa has recorded several albums: album “Strange Feather” with ther quintet (2016), the Big Pocket Orchestra (2016), Hypnotic with drummer Joao Vieira (2018), Primordial 6tet, with pianist Mariano Camarasa (2018), Live at Tepekalesound with the Discordian Community Ensemble (2019), and has participated in records of trumpet player Pepi Dallo (2017) and guitarist Pablo de Luca (2020).
